About the First Chamber
The First Chamber of the States General (Dutch: Eerste Kamer der Staten-Generaal) is the upper house of the Dutch parliament. It is composed of 75 members who are elected by the provincial assemblies of the Netherlands for a term of six years. The First Chamber has a mainly advisory role and can only delay or reject legislation passed by the lower house, the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer). The First Chamber also has the power to investigate government policy and to hold ministers to account.
